In a near-future society overwhelmed by an aging population and a shortage of caregivers, the government introduces an AI-driven healthcare system that determines when individuals with severe cognitive decline are "gone."
When Daniel, a 40 year old single teacher who aspires to travel the world, enrolls his Alzheimer affected mother in the program, he gains the freedom he has long desired. The AI system, a humanoid resembling his mother’s younger self, assumes primary care duties, relieving Daniel of the exhausting burden of full-time caregiving.
At first, Daniel embraces this newfound independence, watching as the AI efficiently manages his mother’s needs. But soon, subtle moments unsettle him. His mother, in a rare moment of clarity, expresses a deep craving for a childhood chocolate treat. The AI, prioritizing her health, denies the request, triggering a distressing emotional down spiral. Other small, rational but coldly calculated decisions accumulate, slowly stripping her autonomy.
Daniel begins to question whether true care is about efficiency or dignity. When the AI declares his mother “gone,” Daniel finds himself legally powerless. Trapped in a moral dilemma, he must decide whether to trust the system or fight to prove that his mother is still present.
